Sainz’s choice
Carlos Sainz He knew from February 1st that from 2025 there would be no more room for him at Ferrari due to the arrival of Lewis Hamilton. The Spaniard thus began his season with the motivation of having to shine for secure a seat in a new team for the next championship. So far Sainz has achieved a success in Australia and is fifth in the world championship, confirming his reliable and fast pilot.
However, the doors of a top team have not opened, with Red Bull and Mercedes having taken other paths and thus Sainz has made his move to Williams official, signing a two-year deal with the option to extend.
Marko talks about Sainz
Helmut Marko knows Carlos Sainz well, having placed him alongside Max Verstappen at Toro Rosso in 2015: “It’s understandable that he decided to go to Williams. What were the alternatives? Audi certainly wasn’t for next year. And in Alpine it’s not known whether they will have Mercedes engines from 2025 or 2026. In his situation, it was the best solution.”
In his column in the Swiss magazine Speed WeekMarko then added a reflection: “Sure that It’s tragic that in his best season at Ferrari, he fails to get a drive in a top team. In any case, Williams seems to have a clause in the contract that will allow him to be released if he were to receive an offer from a team that is significantly better positioned.”
