The Isle of Man TT is back after two years of absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic and unfortunately was immediately shaken by the death of Mark Purslow, which occurred following an accident in Wednesday night’s practice.
Shortly after 8 pm local time, the session was interrupted due to an accident in the very fast section of Ballagarey of the more than 37 miles of the legendary Mountain Course.
The next session, that of the Sidecars, was canceled due to the accident and this already portended the worst. In fact, around 10:30 pm on Wednesday evening, the organization confirmed the sad news of Purslow’s death due to the consequences of the accident.
For Purslow it was the second appearance at the TT after his 2017 debut. But he was not a fool, given that we are talking about a rider who had already been able to establish himself at the Manx Grand Prix.
The statement released by the organizers explains: “The Isle of Man TT Races is sorry to confirm that Mark Purslow, 29, of Llanon, Ceredigion, was killed in an accident during the fourth qualifying session of the Isle of TT races. of Man of 2022 “.
“The accident happened in Ballagarey, before the fourth mile, during his third lap of the session.”
“Mark made his first Mountain Course appearance at the 2015 Manx Grand Prix, in which he won the Lightweight Race on his debut. In 2017 he moved up to the Isle of Man TT races, competing in the Supersport and Lightweight classes. That of 2022 was his second TT “.
“Mark was also an experienced historical racing driver, who participated in the Classic TT in 2016, 2018 and 2019, with a best result of 14th place in the Junior Classic TT 2019”.
“Mark had set his fastest ever lap on the Mountain Course at 120.86mph at the start of the session, his first lap over 120mph.”
“The Isle of Man TT Races conveys the deepest condolences to Mark’s family, friends and loved ones.”
Another pilot, Dave Moffitt, was flown to Liverpool hospital on Tuesday evening after an accident in qualifying in the Lightweight class. His condition is “serious but stable”.
