The world foil gold medalist spoke about how his passion and adventure was born at the World Championships in Milan: “I didn’t feel up to it due to the injury”
“The golden boy of foil” loves clothes, music, acting. And above all he loves fencing, that sport discovered by chance when he was 9 years old and of which he is now the new phenomenon. Tommaso Marini, the 23-year-old who won world gold in foil this year in Milan, talks about himself at the Sports Festival, with Elisa Di Francisca guiding him in the story of his sporting success and his life.
WORLD CUP

Marini starts again from the World Championship, from the fears of the Milan race which then ended with gold. “I faced the World Championship with many uncertainties due to an injury that affected my entire last period: I didn’t feel up to it as I hadn’t trained as I wanted. However, I told myself that I still had to give everything: on the day of the race I was 100% excited and every attack was prepared to make as few mistakes as possible. The injury was an enemy, but also a friend for what it allowed me to do.”
FENCING

Marini talks about his discovery of fencing, what made him understand that it was the right environment for him, what pushed him to move forward and reach the World Championship gold medal despite some difficulties. “When you reach certain levels, the most dangerous opponents are ourselves – says the athlete from the Police -. It’s not easy to manage emotions, you have no certainties about yourself, your anxieties and your fears. I have some opponents who I know I need to be more careful with, but I’m no longer scared of anyone. I need a teacher who stands with his rifle pointed while I train: it’s working”
