The Colombian delegation experienced an unexpected day at the BMX at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in which Carlos Ramirez was left out, while Mariana Pajon, Gabriela Bolle, Mateo Carmona and Diego Arboleda qualified for the semi-finals.
According to the criteria of
What a difficult day it was, which ended in the middle of a tremendous downpour on the beautiful BMX track, where the Colombians did a good job, but it could have been better.
Very hard and unexpected
Pajón and Bolle qualified in the final instance, in the repechage, the same instance that Ramírez reached, but the Antioquian had a fall and was left out of any option.
The quarter-finals were not good, at least the statistics say so. Carmona and Arboleda were always in the running for direct qualification and both achieved it.
Pajón, Bolle and Ramírez suffered a lot, who had to go to the last instance, to save the year in the final exam, but the bronze medalist of Rio de Janeiro 2016 and Tokyo 2021 was left out.
Surprised
Pajón and Bolle reached their position in the semi-final, in which they will also play for a place in the final in three series, but they will have to work hard, as their rivals were far superior.
“There was a lot of anxiety in the first laps, but I am happy to have made it through. It is lovely to see the people, the family and we hope to have peace of mind for the second day,” said Bolle.
“The race took me by surprise. I have to believe in myself tomorrow and I hope that this experience will help me. Physically I am fine, but I have to think about doing better, moving better on the track,” said Pajón.
He added: “It is a great opportunity and I have to take advantage of it. It is a shame what happened to Carlos, I am a witness to what he has done.
