Minister of Culture highlighted the importance of the group in the formulation of public policies in the country
The Ministry of Culture swore in this Monday (3.Apr.2023) the new members of the CNPC (National Council for Cultural Policy), a group established with the aim of helping to formulate public policies in the country, in a collaborative and democratic way.
During the inauguration ceremony of the 72 new members, including members and substitutes (18 of them representatives of civil society), the Minister of Culture, Margareth Menezes, highlighted that the CNPC is one of the most significant social participation councils in the country, collaborating for the “democratization of decision-making mechanisms” of the construction of public cultural policies.
“Giving office to this council elected at the end of the last government is an affirmation of respect for all electoral processes that unequivocally translate responsibility and commitment to democracy”said the minister.
Margareth cited as fundamental to “structuring and strengthening of the country’s cultural public policies”state and municipal councils, as well as the consolidation of the National Culture System –cited by the government as a fundamental instance of cultural policies.
Participation
“Society is eager to participate in the process, not just to win an election, but to help in the governance of this country, participating in the main decisions. I want to affirm the importance of states and municipalities joining us, creating and strengthening their cultural systems”said the minister
She also mentioned the challenge of inserting culture more and more in the “wheel of the economy” as already done by developed countries.
“It is necessary to know which culture generates economy at a time when the country needs to enrich its people. There are 7 million people who live and survive from culture, this tool that God has given us in all regions and in all cities”he argued, when calling on the members of the board to face the challenge of taking advantage of the “competence” of the new generation with new technologies.
“Let’s set foot in the future. We are creating a process for the new generation that is already present. We have to think about this dialogue; in this contribution; and in that welcoming of the intelligences of this new generation that is fantastic”.
emancipation tool
The minister also proposed a “reflection” advisers on cultural policy as a tool for social, political and economic emancipation – something that, according to her, the previous government lacked.
“In recent difficult times, when our democracy was at risk, [o setor cultural] remained standing, in defense of the democratic rule of law and civilizing principles. He remained alive, mobilized and active, proving to be resilient and inventive, in the face of the greatest challenges posed by the disruption of participation and creation mechanisms, creating new modes of social participation”said the minister.
She reiterated the position defended by the federal government, of developing initiatives that also seek to “unlocking and unlocking the economic vector of culture”. In this sense, the minister defended the right of individuals and companies to direct part of their taxes to culture. “It is a right of those who want to do it”completed.
