Marco Zunino has always demonstrated his concern when it comes to exploring the diverse world of art. With extensive experience in acting, which has allowed him to work in Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, Ecuador and the same stage of broadway, in United States; These days he takes a break from scripts and rehearsals to be part of the reality show 'The Great Celebrity Chef'. He has just released a song with Rossana Fernández-Maldonado, titled 'To love you more'.
“This (the reality show and the song) is like returning to Peru a bit,” says the actor, who in recent years has been acting in Mexico. “I don't want to keep doing the same things. I asked myself 'what do I want to do?' I love to sing! And what better than with Rossana, with whom we have done some things and we have an audience that likes to see us sing. And we have chosen already known songs with new arrangements. 'To love you more' is a song that Rossana and I sang when we were in love,” she remembers.
But do you have acting projects or will you step aside for a while?
YOU CAN SEE: 'Ballerina', spin-off of 'John Wick', will no longer be seen in 2024 and delays its release date
For the second half of the year I have a musical work with DIego Lombardi, but there are also not many options here. When you don't have offers and you say no (to a proposal), they don't forgive you, they resent you. If you work for one company, don't even think about working for another because they will veto you. There are three production companies here and this is not such an easy way. It's ungrateful. They pay less and less. Sometimes I would like to be able to choose the projects, this one yes, this one no, but one has to accept because one has to work. I'm in 'The Great Chef', and yes, I think it's fun, I was afraid because it was something new, but the economic part also prevails, it's a plus. In this country, we actors have to do everything. And now music is something that I also love and generates an income for me. In the TV soaps They pay actors less and less. In this country, the actor, the artist shows his face, but they are the lowest paid, they have always taken advantage of talent. A country ungrateful with its actors. An example, Ricardo Fernandez, an eminence of acting. There is no 'Casa del Artista' here, nor insurance. To make matters worse, there are people in Congress who want to lower the few laws that support the artist. The artist has a constant presence in our lives and he is the face of the country abroad. I have been the face of my country on Broadway, in Mexico, and I don't ask for anything, but don't come to obstruct either. In other countries there are many laws that benefit the artist because they understand art, not here. For example, what happens with the film law.
And are you working to continue going abroad?
Is not easy. I have not mentioned, for example, that plays have a very long process to reach Broadway. I have already been in three of those processes. The last one with Edie Brickell (voice of the late 80's hit 'What I Am'). I have been working with her twice. A week in Los Angeles and then a month in NY, with Broadway artists. She is wife of Paul Simon and the day we presented his musical he and many people from the industry were there. I was in the lobby and Paul Simon came out, introduced himself and said 'I want to talk to you.' And he talked to me for 15 minutes about my job, that he was excited about the song he had made, that he had cried. I could not believe it. Paul Simon was talking to me! Then we met in New York and talked about Peru, about 'Cóndor Pasa', remember that he wrote lyrics to it. We greet each other as friends (laughs). With Edie we have a project that we are working on, but we will see what happens.
