The heavy rains fallen during the last hours in Madrid, together with the landing of swamps full after the streak of storms that the peninsula has been supporting for weeks have taken the Manzanares river to its maximum level of the entire episode.
The Hydrographic Confederation of the Tagus (CHT) indicates through its aforementioned measurement system that the river that crosses the capital of Spain has crossed the red threshold and is in a capacity of 589,406 meters in the San Fernando bridge, higher than the one that forced the M-30 link with the M-30 with the M-30 hours.
This notice joins the yellow alert for strong rainfall that the State Meteorology Agency (Aemet) has extended to the entire community of Madrid and that in the early afternoon only affected the Sierra. It is expected that this alert will extend at least until 2.00 in the morning.
Given this situation, the Security and Emergency Agency of the Community of Madrid has recommended to the population restrict displacements and the Government delegation claims “maximum caution” to citizens.
Both delegation and community and Madrid City Council warned throughout this Thursday that if the hydrographic situation worsens, it may be necessary to cut some high-capacity roads, such as M-30, M-40, A-6, A-2 and A-5.
Madrid emergencies spread some images taken in the passage of Manzanares under the A-6 (Coruña road) on Thursday afternoon in which the scarce margin that had the river on the highway was appreciated. The vice mayor of the capital, Immaculate Sanz, had warned in the morning that the main floods had occurred in the area of the Somontes picnic.
For two days it is recommended not to approach the banks of Manzanares that is not channeled, from Mingorrubio to the bridge of the French, due to the danger of overflow by the rains and by the unpacked of the swamp of El Pardo.
The intense fallen storm over the capital on the night of this Thursday to Friday forced to cut the subway service on line 7, between the stations of the Muses and García Noblejas. The incidence, however, was solved in a quarter of an hour and at 10 pm the trains circulated normally.
The CHT warns of red thresholds in other rivers of the Community of Madrid such as the Henares, the Jarama and the Guadarrama, although its flows have not yet reached the levels recorded two days ago, when they caused light overflows and forced some evacuations.
