A New York man has set a world record for eating at the most Michelin-starred restaurants in a single day. Eric Finkelstein, 34, embarked on a quest to eat at 18 of the acclaimed restaurants in a 24-hour period.
It took the healthcare IT consultant 14 months to plan and execute his eccentric stunt, not least because he had to secure reservations at many of the best establishments in town.

“Planning was more than half the challenge, just getting restaurants to agree to do it and then finding a logical route that worked,” he said.
Finkelstein compiled a list of the best places he planned to eat. Initially, he contacted more than 80 restaurants, but only got a response from 10. Unfortunately, four of them lost their star when the Michelin Guide announced its 2022 choices – just 20 days before its official attempt.
He frantically reached out to other restaurants and luckily got enough reservations for his official attempt on October 26th.
The 18 restaurants were all visited on foot or by public transport, without being able to use a taxi or app car. He started his marathon at Le Pavillon and finished at Noda, after 11 hours of running around and a lot of munching.
According to Eric, he ate around 5,000 calories and spent US$494 that day, the equivalent of R$2,648.53, not including tips. He opted for smaller, faster foods to achieve his goal, which explains why at one of the restaurants he only ate a bowl of blueberries.
After the 18 meals, he told Guinness that his three favorite dishes were served by Casa Mono, Francie and Red Paper Clip.
