Pakistani women’s rights activist Malala Yousafzai, who at the age of 17 in 2014 was the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize, has married her partner, Asser Malik, according to the announcement. Yousafzai on his Twitter profile this Tuesday: “Today is a beautiful day in my life. Asser and I have tied the knot to be partners for life. We have held a small nikkah ceremony at our home in Birmingham with our families. Please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk the journey ahead of us together ”.
The announcement has caused a sensation on social networks, since last June, in an interview with Vogue, the activist assured that she did not understand why people got married: “If you want a person in your life, why do you have to sign the marriage papers? Why can’t it just be a couple? My mother tells me not to dare to say that, that I have to get married, that marriage is precious ”. However, a nikkah ceremony is not a legally binding contract, it is the first step in an Islamic union.
Today marks a precious day in my life.
Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families. Please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead.

Yousafzai, now 24 years old, began to be known internationally in 2009, after the BBC began publishing the newspaper she wrote, where she denounced the situation of women and girls under the progressive control of the Taliban. By 2012, she had become a local heroine. That year, a religious fanatic intercepted the school bus in which she was traveling and, after identifying her, shot her in the head. The news caused such a stir that the government chartered a helicopter to take her to the Peshawar military hospital. From there she was transferred to Islamabad. Against all odds, he managed to save himself. He awoke from an induced coma in a Birmingham hospital, where he has lived ever since.
In England, she continued her activism in defense of access to education for women and girls. “I am dedicated to the cause of education and I believe that I can dedicate my whole life to it. I don’t care how long it takes me. I focus on my studies, but what matters most to me is the education of every girl in the world, so I will commit my life to it and I am proud to work for the education of girls, “he said in an interview for EL COUNTRY WEEKLY in 2013. In 2014, he received the Nobel Peace Prize for his work.
In 2016, he celebrated his 16th birthday by giving a speech in New York at the United Nations headquarters. A year later he began studying a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics at the University of Oxford, graduating with honors last year. He has never stopped his social activism. Last August, he reappeared in a video interview criticizing the new Taliban regime in Afghanistan and calling on the international community to open doors to its refugees.
Regarding his partner, Asser Malik, little was known until today. Also of Pakistani origin, Malik is currently CEO of the Pakistan Cricket Board, according to his personal account of LinkedIn. In that social network, he describes himself as an “entrepreneur with a proven history of working in the sports industry. Previously, he worked in the Pakistani professional cricket team Multan Sultans, among other positions related to the sporting world. He graduated in 2012 from the Lahore University of Management Sciences, with a degree in Science, Economics and Political Science.
