The Dane loves racing in the Principality
Monk divides criticism. On the one hand there are those who believe that it is an indispensable event, inherent and inseparable from the DNA of F1, on the other hand there are those who maintain that it is now an anachronistic and completely unsuitable weekend in light of the fact that overcoming is impossible and that the GP is a long walkway until the checkered flag (in 2018 Daniel Ricciardo managed to win despite a power unit problem that took dozens of horsepower away from the Australian without the latter losing the lead of the race).
What everyone agrees on is the fact that Qualifying in Monaco is one of the most prestigious sessions in all of motorsport. The Haas driver Kevin Magnussen declared that he would liven up the Monaco weekend by providing the Sprint format in the Principality: “There are no overtakings in the race and it’s strange compared to all the other races, perhaps there could be more qualifying sessions or a sprint race to make a change”the words of the Dane.
Sprint or not, Magnussen would never take Monaco out of calendar: “The Monaco Grand Prix is part of the triple crown, it’s one of those races that if you win it’s even more special – he added – the feeling of driving a Formula 1 car in Monaco, for me, is the best of the year, it’s the best circuit on the calendar.”
