Jeff Mayoncalda it’s theCEO of Coursera since 2017. Coursera is an American company that publishes online courses by computer science professors at Stanford University. And it is precisely at Stanford that Maggioncalda graduated in English and economics. After that, he was CEO for eighteen years of Financial Engines, becoming the largest independent American investment advisor when the company went public in 2010. In 2017, he replaced Rick Levin as CEO of Coursera. He is also currently a member of the board of directors of Silicon Valley Bank.
Coursera has been focusing on theartificial intelligenceas many other companies are doing. Thanks to artificial intelligence, Coursera can count on the internationalization of content and economically translate lessons. The same site can boast very popular courses to better learn AI and its characteristics.
AI and teaching
Warm May has shown a strong interest in artificial intelligence, to the point that Coursera courses on the topic are among the most popular: “A lot of people are looking for courses on artificial intelligence. There has been very rapid growth, reaching four enrollments per minute for courses on artificial intelligence. However, AI is becoming increasingly important for teachingas a tool to do things we couldn’t even imagine before.”
Coursera’s CEO highlighted how important artificial intelligence is, especially for content translation, as previously the translation of an entire course cost the company around thirteen thousand dollars. Thanks to machine learning, the price has dropped to just twenty, maximum twenty-five dollars.
The effects of AI in Italy
The CEO also talks about theItaly and the effects that it will have on it.IA: “In 2027, 48% of the skills needed at work will change in Italy”. And he adds: “According to The European House, the impact of GenAI will be on 18% of the Italian GDP and will save 5.4 billion hours in sectors such as finance, ICT, real estate, professional services, education, healthcare, assistance”.
But why is this? Maggioncalda gives his explanation: “This will happen because in globally competitive markets, the impact begins where there is a measurable advantage. And this worries all the European technology leaders I have met in this period, because the Union regulates much more stringently than America and China, thus giving a head start to companies located in these areas”. On the future of AI, Maggioncalda says he is optimistic because “it is generating a lot of opportunities for everyone.”
