The city of Madrid moves more by public transport, bicycle or foot than by car. So are the data. Of the 13.67 million daily trips that were made on average in the capital last February, 6.1 million (45.2%) were in a private vehicle.
The most sustainable, responsible for this increase in circulation (2.4 % year -on -year), meant almost 7.5 million average per day (54.8 %), almost 160,000 more than in the same month of the previous year.
In public transport only 3.78 million displacements were made per day, about 100,000 more than in February 2024. 3.61 million journeys were made on foot, compared to 3.59 million 2024. The remaining 108,050 were made by bike or scooter.
EMT Madrid buses hosted 41.5 million travelers, 4% compared to the same month of the previous year and 1.6% more than in January. Regarding the distribution of mobility by crowns, the month of February, the first complete of Soterration Works of the A-5, public transport has registered a 10% increase compared to January between the city of Madrid and the exterior.
Outside the M-30, 4% increases are recorded in interannual terms. On the other hand, 44 % of the private vehicle journeys were registered between Madrid and outside the city and 34.4 % were counted outside the M-30.
Between the interior and exterior of the M-30, 13.9 % of the displacements by car and just 7.5 % were registered within the main road of the city.
For comparing similar magnitudes, in the city of Barcelona the bus reached record figures in last February. Specifically an increase of almost 21.2% compared to the previous year.
