BRASILIA (Reuters) – Next Monday, a meeting between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and emedebistas will seal the MDB’s alliance with the PT in nine states, leaving the official emedebista candidate, senator Simone Tebet, without a platform.
In Brasília for events and meetings, the former president, who is leading the polls for the race for the Planalto Palace, opened this Tuesday morning to try to settle the regional platforms.
In a meeting with Senator Eduardo Braga (MDB-AM), Lula agreed to support his candidacy for the government of Amazonas, in an alliance that also included Senator Omar Aziz (PSD-AM), candidate for reelection.
Until now, PT and MDB have already reached alliances, in addition to Amazonas, in Pará, Piauí, Ceará, Alagoas, Pernambuco, Maranhão, Rio Grande do Norte and Bahia. There are nine states in which the party chiefs – among them Braga, Eunício Oliveira (CE) and Jarbas Vasconcelos (PE) – have decided that they prefer a platform with Lula than with Tebet, who currently has between 2% and 4% of intention. votes in polls.
Divided between Lula, President Jair Bolsonaro and those who defend Tebet’s candidacy, the MDB freed the States to make the alliances that best fit the regional directories.
Part of the party defended that, if the senator did not take off until May of this year, the party should withdraw its candidacy, but the party’s president, Baleia Rossi, supported by former president Michel Temer, preferred to bet on Tebet and the national alliance with the PSDB
Eduardo Braga, however, defends that this is still discussed.
“The MDB is open at the moment, but there is an issue that we obviously need to talk about. Nine of the 27 states are already on the platform of President Lula. There would be no platform (for Simone). This issue needs to be discussed with Lula and with Baleia,” Braga said after a conversation that confirmed Lula’s support for his candidacy.
The former president should go to Manaus at the end of this month or at the beginning of August, as well as Belém, where he will be on the platform of Helder Barbalho.
