The Chief Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costasaid this Tuesday (May 14, 2024) that the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) will announce on Wednesday (May 15) a “federal authority” to coordinate and deal with the crisis caused by the rains in Rio Grande do Sul.
“He [Lula] has already announced that it intends to place someone to represent, at least in the first few months, the federal government, given the volume of relationships that will be needed. Rui Costa stated that the government is obliged to set a deadline, even if it is renewed later. According to the minister, the authority will remain in Rio Grande do Sul until the end of the state of public calamity, decreed by the state government and recognized by the Lula administration.
The information that Lula would appoint a federal authority was provided by First Lady Janja Lula da Silva, in an interview with the portal ICL News. According to her, the decision is a response to the government’s request for a transfer to the State to improve federal aid for floods.
The request was made by the mayor of the municipality of Guaíba, Marcelo Maranata (PDT).
The announcement will be made during Lula’s trip to the state. The trip will help the federal government launch measures aimed at affected families.
In addition to appointing a federal authority, Rui Costa said that the head of the Executive should also announce a voucher for families. The minister did not detail the measure or speak of the value of the aid.
