Former president indicated that acronym has become more tolerant over time and that it is not possible to “recover the country alone”
The former president and pre-candidate for Palácio do Planalto Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Saturday (June 18, 2022) that his party sometimes still boos the Brazilian flag and the National Anthem, but hinted that the acronym has become more tolerant over time.
“I remember that when the PT was born, the Fernando Henrique Cardoso he said ‘this PT boos to the Brazilian flag, boos to the National Anthem’, and we still boo from time to time, but we learned a lot because we already governed”said the former president of the Republic.
The PT member mentioned the former governor of São Paulo Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), former political opponent and current vice on his presidential ticket, and declared that it is necessary to make alliances.
“It is not possible for us to imagine that we can recover this country alone”, declared Lula. He stated that, at the time when PT and PSDB were polarizing national politics, before Jair Bolsonaro (PL) being elected president, disputes were more civilized.
“We even spoke ill of each other, but we did not become enemies. We left the dispute, we continued as Brazilians trying to build the best for this country”said the former president.
“Often he plays the image that the PT doesn’t like anyone”said Lula.
Lula’s pre-campaign has been trying to dispute Bolsonaro’s speech. The current president calls himself a patriot and paints his opponents as enemies of the country.
The PT included green and yellow in the pre-campaign visual identity and the Brazilian flag in his rallies. It has been common for the National Anthem to be played before the speeches – the song was played with voice and guitar this Saturday (June 18).
The PT spoke at a pre-campaign event in Aracaju (SE), where he promotes the name of the PT senator Rogério Carvalho as a candidate for the state government.

Squid in the Northeast
Aracaju is the last stop in a series of visits by the former president to capitals in the Northeast. Before, he was at:
- Maceió – AL (June 17, 2022) – the former president met with Renan Calheiros (MDB) and showed support for pre-candidates for Renan Filho (MDB) to the Senate and Paulo Dantas (MDB) to the government of Alagoas;
- Christmas – RN (June 16, 2022) – Lula met with governors of 7 of the 8 states in the Northeast or their representatives, promoted the governor’s pre-candidacy Fátima Bezerra (PT) for re-election and met with supporters at a fair for small farmers.
During his visit to the Northeast, Lula has reinforced his speech to fight hunger and poverty. He also reacted to the attempt to Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to dispute the political gain in the region provided by the transposition of the São Francisco River.
the last search PowerDate, released on June 8, shows PT with 57% of voting intentions for the 1st round in the Northeast. In this cut, Bolsonaro has 22%.
Counting the entire country, Lula has 43% and the current president of the Republic, 35%.
Lula’s tour this week of Corpus Christi began on Wednesday (June 15), when he went to Uberlândia (MG) to promote the pre-candidacy of Alexandre Kalil (PSD) to the government of Minas Gerais.
