Accompanied by Janja, the president planted two Sumaúma seedlings, a plant native to the Amazon
The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) took advantage of the sunny morning this Saturday (20 January 2024) in Brasília to plant two Sumaúma seedlings on the lawns of Palácio da Alvorada.
First Lady Janja Lula da Silva accompanied him and recorded everything on her cell phone.

The holes were made by gardening employees and a professional from Novacap, a public company in the Federal District that carries out works. Lula also used a shovel to dig the holes, inserted the seedlings, poured water on the plants and used a rake to cover the roots.
Tourists visiting the vicinity of Alvorada tried to speak to the president and the first lady, but they only waved from afar. At the end, Lula and Janja left the place in the electric golf cart used to transport them to the official residence. The vehicle was loaned by Itaipu Binacional in September, shortly before he underwent hip surgery.
Sumaúma is a tree native to the Amazon, but also appears in the Northeast and Central-West regions of Brazil. It is considered sacred to the Mayan people who inhabited the region and to indigenous tribes. It can reach 50 meters in height and up to 3 meters in diameter.
