Prates’ situation in charge of the state-owned oil company was seen as unsustainable; Planalto has not yet announced the name of the replacement
The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) fired on Tuesday night (May 14, 2024) Jean Paul Prates as president of Petrobras. Palácio do Planalto has not yet released the name of the replacement.
As found out by the Power360, Prates’ situation in command of the state-owned company was seen as unsustainable. Since 2023, he was passing by “frying” from sectors of the government that wanted him out of office.
Ministers Alexandre Silveira (Mines and Energy) and Rui Costa (Casa Civil) had been harshly criticizing his management. Lula did not intervene publicly. The PT member’s silence, to a certain extent, was already read as tacit support for the ministers.
