Indonesian Rizki Juniansyah won the 73kg weightlifting gold medal in an Olympic record. Colombian Luis Javier Mosquera was fifth, with 340 kilos, and won an Olympic diploma.
According to the criteria of
Mosquera spoke clearly with EL TIEMPO about his performance, which was in line with what was expected. It is worth remembering that she is a two-time Olympic medallist. She won bronze in Rio 2016 and silver in Tokyo 2020. However, the category in which she won those medals, the under 69 kilogram category, was eliminated and she had to move up to the 73 kg category.
How do you analyse your performance?
I feel proud to have achieved fifth place in these Olympic Games because it was not easy for me to get here. The medal is important for a country, for a nation, for my family, for me, but I am proud of what I have achieved.
Did you feel the medal close?
Anything can happen at the Olympics: Don’t judge those who don’t win medals because it’s really hard. First, know that qualifying is hard. And second, you can’t imagine the pressure you feel because you’ve trained so hard to achieve a goal…
Why did they cancel the first push?
I really don’t know what happened at that moment, and then, for the second attempt, I had to go out very quickly again and that also had a lot of impact because of the increased pressure. The idea we had was to be much calmer after the first attempt.
How much weight did mentality have there?
Mentality…? You can’t imagine the pain I’m in! My back, knee, shoulders, elbows are all coming out! We handle immense pressure, and seeing so much criticism for each Colombian athlete is not fair.
How do you assimilate what you are saying?
Since Tokyo I learned to stay away from social media, to try not to give so many interviews so I can be calmer… But I do know that I’m not going to retire. Óscar Figueroa won a gold medal at 36… I can do it at 32!
