“When I was chosen to perform a monologue that talks about breast cancer as part of the national awareness campaign ‘They’re not all the same’ I was very happy, because in my opinion talking about prevention, but talking about it in the right way – even from the stage of a concert – to be listened to by younger girls, it’s an innovative, very intelligent and interesting way.” Lucia Ocone, Italian comedian, impersonator and actress, told Adnkronos Salute on the occasion of the presentation – today in Rome – of the national awareness campaign ‘They are not all the same. Breast cancer and life paths’, a social initiative promoted by MSD Italia.
The campaign also wants to analyze the emotional aspects, through a monologue that tells the story of a woman who receives a diagnosis of breast cancer, played by Ocone. The monologue is presented at the opening of the Rome and Milan stages (10 and 17 May 2024) of the tour in the arenas of a very successful Italian group, the Pinguini Tattici Nucleari. “First of all, it is not the usual prevention campaign – which absolutely must be done because we all have to have a mammogram and all the necessary checks once a year – but it is important to specify the fact that tumors are not all the same and for this reason it is necessary inform about different treatment and life paths”, adds the actress.
Cancer “can affect anyone, it can happen to any of us – remarks Ocone – Many have had to deal with cancer directly or indirectly, because the disease has targeted friends, relatives, near and far. But not we should be ashamed of calling it by its name: it is not a shame nor a taboo. However, for many it is ‘that ugly evil’, instead it is called cancer. This is why I find it right and important to inform with irony, through an event like the concert of the Nuclear Tactical Penguins, because there are many young people who need to be made aware, above all, of the fact that tumors are not all the same and that science and research have made great strides forward. This is true for women of all ages age”.
