Title dream already faded?
Over the weekend the MotoGP will stop in Jerez in Andalusia, the Cathedral of Spanish motorcycling, for the fourth act of the 2024 championship. Jorge Martin, playing the regularity card for now, is the leader of the World Championship with a 21-point margin over Enea Bastianini. Both have the Ducati GP-24, the bike with which Martin in Portugal (and in the Lusail Sprint) and Bagnaia in Qatar have won so far.
In the United States, the best Ducati was that of Bastianini, third at the finish line, far from the elusive Maverick Vinales and the surprising Pedro Acosta, who after three races is already a solid reality in the category and occupies fourth position in the standings. Marc Marquez he is eighth at -54 behind Martin. The eight-time world champion finished second in the Portimao and Texas Sprints, but crashed on both occasions in the Sunday Grands Prix. In the Algarve the contact with Francesco Bagnaia was decisive when the two were fighting for fifth position, while in Austin he fell as race leader due to a brake problem which he tried to live with for the entire race.
Second Jorge Lorenzo Marquez's ranking would be very different if he had a 2024 version of Ducati at his disposal: “Marquez would have already won some races with the Ducati GP-24“declared the Majorcan during the last episode of the podcast Duralavida. The five-time world champion believes that the former Honda started the championship with the title objective, an objective that has perhaps already disappeared: “In Qatar, Marquez's approach started with the championship in mind and not to exaggerate. Now after this fall the title objective is perhaps no longer achievable”added Lorenzo in the debate with the other protagonists Ricard Jové (journalist), Ruben Xaus (former rider and team manager) and Ramon Forcada (chief crewman of Lorenzo in MotoGP among others).
