Press reports stated that Bayern Munich is interested in signing Spanish coach Julen Lopetegui. According to the German network Sky, Lopetegui, 57, is a candidate to coach the Bavarian club at the end of the season, following the departure of current coach Thomas Tuchel.
Lopetegui took over as coach of Wolverhampton Wolverhampton, and terminated his contract last August, days before the start of the English Premier League season. Lopetegui previously coached the Spanish national team, Real Madrid, and Sevilla.
Bild newspaper also indicated that Bayern is studying the possibility of contracting with Lopetegui, with Benfica’s Portuguese coach Roger Schmidt among the list of candidates for the position.
After attempts to sign Ralf Rangnick, Julian Nagelsmann and Xabi Alonso failed, Bayern Munich is still searching for a new coach to succeed Tuchel.
