5 deadThe American who drove his vehicle into a Christmas parade in the American city of Waukesha (Wisconsin) had only been free for a few days. It concerns 39-year-old Darrell Brooks from Wisconsin, an amateur rapper with a criminal past. Brooks was allowed to go home last Friday after paying a $1,000 bail, but with a no-arms ban.
The sole suspect in the massacre reportedly had no intention of committing an attack. There is no evidence of terrorism, the police said after the drama with five deaths. Brooks, a lone man according to police, tore through town in his SUV after a report of “domestic violence.” He slammed through the barricades the police had erected at the parade.
reckless behavior
Police were able to arrest the suspected driver nearby. He is being prosecuted for five counts of murder. The dead ranged from 52 to 81 years of age. Among them are members of the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies, who have been a regular part of the Christmas parade for years. “Our group did what they loved, performing in front of crowds in a parade and bringing smiles to faces of all ages,” the group wrote in a statement on Facebook. “Those who died were extremely passionate grannies.”

According to the police, 48 people were injured, including 18 children between the ages of 3 and 16. “Injuries ranged from facial abrasions and broken bones to serious head injuries. Six of these patients were sent to the operating room last night and two additional patients are undergoing surgery today,” the hospital said yesterday. Health care providers describe the massacre as one of the largest mass child accidents in Wisconsin’s recent history, according to BBC.
The alleged perpetrator was released on November 19 after someone else had paid the bail of 1000 dollars (almost 900 euros) in cash. Three days later, he drove into Waukesha’s Christmas parade. He was not chased by the police. The man has an extensive criminal record, according to American media, with a recent charge of assault, domestic violence and reckless behavior. He was allowed to go home after paying the bail, the police now recognize that the amount of $ 1000 was ‘inappropriately low’, writes CNN.

Known from police
In the earlier incident, Brooks also used a car to cause injuries. On November 2, the rapper hit a woman in the parking lot of a gas station. Prosecutors filed five charges related to the incident, including obstructing an officer and recklessly endangering safety. Brooks was also charged with violating his parole because he was already out on bail from yet another incident, in which he was charged with possession of a gun.
In a new statement, authorities acknowledged that Brooks’ bail was far too low given his past violations. The bail in this case was inappropriately low given the nature of the recent charges and the pending charges against Mr Brooks.
Social media
Authorities are currently investigating social media and other digital platforms to determine the cause of the drama. So far, the researchers have no reason to believe that there is any connection with radicalization or extremism.
There would also be no connection with the acquittal of Kyle Rittenhouse last week in Kenosha, 80 kilometers from Waukesha. Rittenhouse had shot and killed two people at an anti-racism demonstration, saying he was in self-defense.
Christmas parade
The Christmas parade in Waukesha, a town of approximately 72,000 west of Milwaukee, is traditionally held each year on the Sunday before Thanksgiving and features floats, dancers, and brass bands. This year’s theme was ‘comfort and joy’.
