Eni, green light for the Stagno biorefinery (Livorno)
Eni confirms that the authorization has been obtained from the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security in agreement with the Ministry of Culture, having acquired the opinions of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità and the Tuscany Region, for which the application had been submitted Environmental Impact Assessment (VIA) in November 2022.
The construction of the third biorefinery in Italy, confirmed by Eni last January, will begin as soon as the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security releases, in agreement with local authorities, the Single Authorization and the related building permit. The refinery is based on technology Eco-refining™ and will have a capacity of 500 thousand tons/year. Construction is scheduled for 2026.
The conversion of the industrial site in Livorno, following the model already achieved in 2014 in Porto Marghera and in 2019 in Gela, confirms Eni’s decarbonisation strategy aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and increasing the biorefining capacity of Enilive from the current 1.65 million tonnes/year to over 5 by 2030.
The areas where the three new plants are planned for the biorefiningunder construction since last January for the preparatory activities, are already ready for the opening of the construction sites where the three new plants that will produce will be built HVO diesel, HVO naphtha And bio-LPG from renewable raw materials (in accordance with the European Renewable Energy Directive).
