Liguria investigation, former Iren CEO Paolo Emilio Signorini remains in prison
Paolo Emilio Signorini, the former president of the Genoa port authority and former CEO of Iren, remains in prison. This was decided by the judge for preliminary investigations Paola Faggioni, who rejected the request for mitigation presented by lawyers Enrico and Mario Scopesi. Signorini has been in prison for corruption since 7 May in the investigation into the Liguria Region which led to the house arrest of President Giovanni Toti, as well as the entrepreneur Aldo Spinelli. The public prosecutors Federico Manotti and Luca Monteverde had also given a negative opinion on the application of the measure.
Signorini had availed himself of the right not to answer before the investigating judge and then asked to be heard by the prosecutors. He told prosecutors Luca Monteverde and Federico Manotti that he had received phone calls from Toti to speed up the process at the Rinfuse Terminal, claiming that it was however “normal given that the process was from 2019”. The former president had “recognized the substantial inappropriateness of associating with someone he always considered and still considers a friend. With hindsight I understood that it was not appropriate behavior, but all my work was done in ‘interest of the port and port operators”, he said during the interrogation.
