The driving license review exam is a provision issued by the Civil Motorization Authority or by the Prefect to check whether the holder of a driving document still possesses the necessary requirements to drive safely. The driver then receives a communication by mail which indicate the need to undergo revision.
This means that the user is required to prove that they can still possess the driving document following psycho-physical tests, who had suspended its validity. In fact, having to take the test again often means that the person’s driving license has been suspended or revoked for the most disparate reasons. The driver must therefore be subjected to a theoretical and/or practical exam similar to that required to obtain a driving license. Based on the results of tests and medical examinations, the license may be confirmed, suspended or revoked.
License reviewwhen the exam is required
As mentioned, the examination of license reviewregulated with article 128 of the Highway Codecan be arranged in different cases.
- Loss of all points on your license: when a driver loses all the points on his licence, he is obliged to undergo an inspection to obtain a new license issue.
- Doubts about the existence of physical and mental requirements: if the Civil Motorization or the Prefect have doubts about the existence of the physical and mental requirements of the driver, they can order a medical check to ascertain his suitability to drive.
- Serious crimes: in some cases of serious crimes related to driving, such as driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, dismissal may be ordered license review.
- In any case the driver is involved in a accident with serious consequences.
From the moment you receive the provision inviting you to book the inspection exam from the Civil Motorization Office, you have 30 days to submit the exam application license review at the Civil Motorization Office. If there is a delay, the suspension of the license remains.
What does the driving license review exam consist of?
Once the suspension or revocation period has expired, the license review exam consists of two tests.
- Theory test: a quiz similar to the one taken to obtain a driving licence, with questions on traffic regulations, road signs and safe driving.
- Practice Test: a road driving test to evaluate the driver’s driving ability.

– Category D1, D1E, D, DE driving licence: 30 quizzes, duration 30 minutes, maximum number of errors allowed: 3;
-CQC for the transport of goods: 70 quizzes, duration 90 minutes, maximum number of errors allowed: 7;
-CQC for the transport of people: 70 quizzes, duration 90 minutes, maximum number of errors allowed: 7.
How to prepare for the exam
To best prepare for the driving license review exam, it is advisable to face the test with the humility of a beginner approaching the subject for the first time. Attention to safety details and readiness of mind and body are the most relevant factors for the evaluation of the exam. So you need to pay attention and train:
- the notions about traffic regulations and road signs;
- to practice with i theoretical quizzes;
- practice some guides with an instructor of driving school.
What to do if you pass the driving license review exam
If pass the exam of license review, comes a new license issued with all the points. It will then be possible to resume using the vehicle while respecting road regulations. Attention: the term “new” driving license indicates that the holder of the document is considered to be a newly licensed in all respects, therefore subject to all restrictions imposed on new drivers. If the driver fails the test, the license is suspended or revoked, as appropriate.
