There was an expectation that the Libertarian Party would support Donald Trump or Robert Kennedy Jr
O Libertarian Party announced on Sunday night (May 26, 2024) to have chosen the former candidate for the Senate Chase Oliver as his presidential candidate in November’s US elections. There was an expectation that the party would support donald trump (Republican Party) or Robert Kennedy Jr. (independent).
According to the PoliticalOliver is aligned with a more traditionalist faction of the Libertarian Party, called the Classical Liberal Caucus. He won the nomination after almost 8 hours and 7 rounds of voting.
Oliver is best known for running for the Georgia Senate in 2022. He received just over 2% of the vote, but enough to force a runoff between Senator Raphael Warnock (Democrat) and Republican Hercshel Walker.
When running for president, he focused on being known nationally. Oliver claimed to have campaigned in all 50 states.
“I wanted to demonstrate to delegates and voters that we have the momentum and energy to strive everywhere to grow our party’s base in every state”, he stated in an interview with Political.
Oliver said he plans to reach young voters angry about the war between Israel and Hamas — in particular, those who have participated in pro-Palestinian rallies on college campuses and who have spoken out on social networks like Twitch and TikTok.
“We analyze who are the populations most likely to be ready to leave the two-party system,” stated Oliver.
“We identify young people, and in particular those who are upset about the ongoing war in Gaza, upset about the immigration crisis and upset about the cost of living”, he added. “These are the young people we are going to reach”, he added.
