“Let go of the names of the four suspects for the death of Giulio” This is the appeal launched by the lawyer Alessandra Ballerini the same day in which the case that made it impossible to start the trial was recognized by the Third Court of Assizes of Rome, given the ascertained failure to notify all the accused who are in Egypt and who have not received the news of the trial in Italy. Not formally. The trial was to begin on October 14, it was in its most delicate phase from every point of view and in fact, also to ensure maximum safety, the hearing was held in the Rebibbia bunker room.
The four National Security officials have to answer for multiple kidnapping, torture and murder and have been identified thanks to investigations by the Rome Prosecutor’s Office. They are General Sabir Tariq and Colonels Usham Helmi, Athar Kamel Mohamed Ibrahim, and Magdi Ibrahim Abdelal Sharif; the prosecutors also contest the complicity in aggravated personal injury and the complicity in aggravated murder against the latter. But from the file there is no proof that the news of the trial has reached all of them and for this reason it is not possible, at the moment, to go on.
Hence the appeal of the lawyer representing the Regeni family to do everything possible to “spin” those names and make it possible in some way to effectively notify them of the existence of a trial against them in which they can defend themselves. Without this step, everything could get complicated and would be a denial of justice after the many battles made so far to reconstruct the identity of Giulio’s attackers. TPI collects the appeal of the family and then reports – as already done on several occasions – the names of the suspects, also in the original language to contribute to the notification process by any useful means.

Sharif Magdi Ibrqaim Abdlaal
Major Sharif Magdi Ibrqaim Abdlaal is the man who coordinated Giulio’s spying operation and is the same man who falsely accused and had Ahmed Abdallah arrested in April 2016, the chairman of the board of directors of the Egyptian Commission for Rights and liberties (Ecrf), released after six months in prison.
It is Major Sharif that Mohamed Abdallah, head of the independent union, calls immediately after meeting with Regeni to deliver the hidden camera to him.
The colonel had promised him a reward when the Regeni case was closed.
Colonel Osan Helmy
As the telephone records developed in Italy by Sco and Ros have shown, Colonel Osan Helmy is one of the National Security agents who had enlisted the peddler Mohammed Abdallah.
Helmy is the same one who, in March 2016, welcomed the agents sent from Italy at the airport, stating in front of them that neither he nor his colleagues had ever heard Regeni’s name pronounce before the discovery of the body.
Colonel Ather Kamal
It was he who brought the leader of the peddlers union, Mohammed Abdallah, to the National Security headquarters where he was drafted as Regeni’s “spy”.
General Sabir Tareq
At the moment there is no in-depth information on the general, what is known is that his was a decisive role in the surveillance and shadowing actions of Giulio Regeni.
A few days earlier the same Rome prosecutor had decided to formalize the registration in the register of suspects of some of the nine subjects, including Egyptian policemen and civil secret service agents, believed to be involved in the murder of Giulio Regeni.
