The growth trend of the obesity epidemic shows no signs of decreasing, “but to cope with the chronic disease, even if the patient loses weight, this weight loss is transitory if he does not maintain the therapy and if he does not adopt correct styles of life. The patient must remain thin ideally, however at a standard weight sufficient to avoid having osteomuscular, cardiovascular, bronchopulmonary, cerebral and any organ complications”. Andrea Lenzi, professor of endocrinology at the Sapienza University of Rome and president of the Health City Institute, told Adnkronos Salute on the sidelines of the European Congress on Obesity (Eco) in Venice. For Lenzi, “a single therapy and a single treatment modality for obesity does not exist. As with all complex diseases, there are a series of approaches that must be gradual and personalized for the patient.”
