Another blast from the past
Also this year the Red Bull Ring will be home to the now traditional ‘Legends Paradean event born in 2014 and which will be held on the occasion of Austrian Grand Prix, scheduled for June 28th to 30th. An event that will allow fans to see some of the most iconic single-seaters from the last fifty years of Formula 1 history on the track, driven by those who have won several GPs or world titles during their careers.
The Lotus of the 70s and 80s
Drivers or cars present in the roll of honor of the Austrian GP, starting with Lotus 72 powered by Ford Cosworth. He was the one who crossed the finish line first on the circuit then known as the Österreichring, Emerson Fittipaldiwho will once again embrace the car with which he won the first of his two world titles in 1972. The historic team will rekindle the engine not only of that single-seater, but also that of Lotus 91who concluded the edition of the Austrian GP in front of everyone 1982 thanks to a memorable performance by the late Elio De Angelis. Completing the laps behind the wheel of the famous black-gold ‘John Player Special’ car will be Johnny Herbert.
From Schumacher to Verstappen, but not Max
Having closed the parenthesis of the 1900s, the race will also race on the Red Bull Ring circuit Ferrari F2002which that year was brought to success in Austria by Michael Schumacher not without controversy for the controversial team order imposed on Rubens Barrichello, who handed over the leadership to the German near the finish line. It will be driven by a former Ferrari driver and home idol Gerhard Berger, winner of 10 career races. The 2005however, was the year in which the Red Bull in Formula 1 with the RB1. Here too, as in the case of Fittipaldi with his Lotus, we will see ourselves again David Coulthard (winner in Austria in 2001 with McLaren) at the wheel of the car with which he began his adventure in Milton Keynes. Finally, it is worth underlining the presence of another Red Bull on the track, like the most recent one 2012 RB8. At the wheel of the latter, he will curiously be there Verstappenbut not the current driver of the Anglo-Austrian team, but his father Jos.
