Legal challenges against “Plan B”

Counselors of the National Electoral Institute (INE) considered that the legal challenges against the so-called “Plan B” of the federal Executive will go to the Supreme Court of Justice.

After the meeting with the president of the Political Coordination Board of the Senate, Ricardo Monreal, counselor Roberto Ruiz acknowledged that the Upper House can no longer modify the minute sent by the Chamber of Deputies on December 15.

He even said that after the meeting, Monreal himself expressed that he was more worried.

“We must remember, and I say it with all its letters, let’s see if it is not misinterpreted, not only will a majority reform come out of the Senate, there will also be unconstitutionality actions, in the sense that the legislative minorities have already announced that they are going to challenge , then everyone will know the version of the
INE, for better or for worse, or however they want to see it,” he said.

The counselor highlighted that among the senators there were even expressions of surprise when it was explained to them, for example, that the
reform Eliminates the provision that allows assistant trainers to assist polling station presidents in the delivery of packages after election day, which could lead to non-compliance with the process and eventual cancellation of the polling place, even if it had worked correctly.

“I think they were more informed and more concerned. Sometimes the concern is the product of having more information,” he said.

He even said that legislators like Gustavo Madero, from the Plural Group, and PAN member Xóchitl Gálvez, also expressed their concern about the reform that they described as “Jurassicplan.”

Meanwhile, the counselor Dania Ravel reiterated that although yesterday’s meeting in the Senate took place late, the electoral body will not disdain the spaces of dialogue offered to them.

“It would have been much more fruitful if it had happened a few months ago, in
decembere, I think, was the opportune moment so that it could be had; However, it is in the field of the Legislative Power, and they have their own procedures,” he said.

Ravel trusted that the meeting with the coordinator of the Morena bench will contribute to a better public deliberation around an issue that is of the greatest importance.

He added that it is also
sign of need to always ponder the dialogue, with the objective of achieving informed reflections.

“May this serve as an experience for all of us, just to ponder the need to always listen to those of us who operate the rules,” he said.
