After the confirmation of the results of the polls in the second round this Sunday (30) in Brazil, world leaders expressed their support for the victory of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The first congratulations came from left-wing Latin American leaders, such as Colombian President Gustavo Petro, who declared a succinct “Viva Lula”, even before the end of voting, to commemorate Lula’s victory in the second round of elections this Sunday ( 30) and the return of the left to power in Brazil. Colombian vice president Francia Márquez, who is also close to Lula, whom he met after being elected last July, sent him “an ancestral hug” along with her congratulations: “May wisdom accompany you in this new stage directing the destiny of this sister nation”, wished the Colombian vice president.
Argentine President Alberto Fernández stated that Lula’s victory in the second round of the presidential elections begins “a time of hope and future” in Latin America: “Congratulations @LulaOficial! Your victory opens a new time for the history of Latin America. A time of hope and future that begins today. Here you have a companion to work with and dream big for the good life of our peoples”, wrote the Argentine president on his Twitter account, in which he published a photo with with the former president of Brazil between 2003 and 2010. Fernández recalled the “injustices” that Lula experienced, after which he was again elected by the people of Brazil, and commented that “democracy has triumphed”, to conclude with this sentence: “America Latin dreams”.
Argentina’s vice president, Cristina Kirchner, thanked the president-elect for, in her words, returning “joy and hope” to the region with her victory in the second round of elections: “Today more than ever, love and much happiness. Thank you, people of Brazil. Thank you, comrade Lula, for returning joy and hope to our South America”, wrote the former president on her Twitter account after Lula’s victory.
Cuban dictator Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for the “great victory” in the second round of presidential elections held this Sunday in Brazil and said that the result marks the return of “social justice” to the South American country: “Dear brother Lula, I congratulate you on behalf of the Cuban government and people, as we celebrate your great victory in favor of unity, peace and Latin American and Caribbean integration. Always count on Cuba,” Díaz-Canel wrote on Twitter.
Biden and Trudeau congratulate Lula on victory
US President Joe Biden congratulated Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his victory in the presidential elections in Brazil, which he said were “free, fair and trustworthy”: “I look forward to working together to continue the cooperation of the two countries in the coming months and years,” he added.
On social media, congratulating Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he is “looking forward to working with Lula to strengthen the partnership between our countries, to deliver results for Canadians and Brazilians, and to advance priorities in common — how to protect the environment”.
French President Emmanuel Macron congratulated Lula on his victory in the second round of presidential elections in Brazil, which will take him once again to govern the country, starting on January 1, 2023, calling him “darling”: “Congratulations , dear Lula, by your election, you start a new chapter in the history of Brazil.
