Fastest (for now)
Charles Leclerc was the great star of Friday in Monaco. In front of the home crowd, Ferrari’s #16 started strong straight away, setting the best time in FP2 after a slight scare in the morning session, when he ruined the surface by inadvertently hitting a piece of debris left on the track by Zhou’s Sauber. Wisely, however, the local idol, aware of how everything can change quickly in the streets of the Principality and one must never lower one’s concentration, already has his mind set on tomorrow.
Head to qualification
“I think we were very strong on the mediums – Leclerc declared to television – while on the soft we struggled to put things together. I feel confident in the car and it’s important to keep the momentum in FP3. Maybe I took more risks than others. Overall it’s a positive first day. Tomorrow in qualifying everyone will reach the limit – he added, therefore taking for granted a return of Max Verstappen, who today appeared in difficulty with the setup – I think I’ll be able to have even more pace by putting everything together: if you look at all my sectors there would have been pace if I had put them all together”.
Dangerous Mercedes
The surprise of the day seemed to be Mercedes and Leclerc absolutely does not want to underestimate them: “We seem fast, but as I said yesterday in 2021 we were doing badly but here we were very fast; this year Mercedes also seems very fast here after suffering so much, we saw it with Lewis. We have to maximize everything to be able to take pole“.
