Iran and Venezuela signed a 20-year cooperation agreement in various fields on Saturday, during a visit by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to Tehran.
According to the Iranian media, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi announced, in a statement to the press together with his Venezuelan counterpart, that the signing of the pact”shows the determination of the high officials of the two countries to develop relations in different fields“.
The document, of which no details were provided, was signed by the foreign ministers of the two countries.

Maduro assured that the two countries share an “indestructible friendship” and confirmed that they have before them “great fronts of cooperation” in the oil, gas and petrochemical fields, “financially, with the Iran-Venezuela National Development Bank“and also the defense sector.
Specifically, the Venezuelan president cited “the economic miracle in food production” carried out by Iran, from which Venezuela can draw inspiration. Maduro mentioned, without giving details, “joint projects between the two countries to produce food in Venezuela and export to Iran” and to other countries in the region.
In addition, the South American president announced that a Caracas-Tehran flight will operate again on July 18: “Venezuela is open to receiving tourism from Iran so that they can enjoy the beauty of the Caribbean, the Andes, and the Amazon.”

The official Iranian agency ‘Irna’ explained that “the concerned ministers of both countries signed cooperation agreements in the political, economic, tourism, oil and petrochemical fields” during Maduro’s visit.
Iran is one of Venezuela’s main allies and both are subject to harsh sanctions by the United States. Iran is the third country that Maduro visits this week after traveling to Turkey and Algeria.
