Encore at the top
The feat is accomplished: Ferrari managed to repeat last year’s triumph at the 24 hours of Le Mans, winning the 2024 edition after the 2023 edition. These are the only two victories for the Cavallino since its return to the WEC, but not there could have been a better stage. This time the crew of #50 took the top step of the podium, receiving the baton from their colleagues of #51, who were third today.
First double since the legendary cycle of the ’60s
This back to back is historic for the Prancing Horse, which had not managed to get ahead of everyone in the French endurance classic since the 1960s. That was the golden era of endurance racing and the Scuderia achieved six consecutive triumphs between 1960 and 1965. The first five arrived with the official team, the sixth with the car managed by the North American Racing Team, beating therefore American flag. This is overall victory number 11 for Ferrari in its history at Le Mans.
The ‘filots’ of Toyota, Porsche and Audi
In recent years there has been no shortage of ‘strings’ of successes from other manufacturers, just think of Toyota’s five consecutive victories from 2019 to 2022 and before that the streaks of consecutive victories by Porsche and Audi. This time it is the Italian tricolor that continues to fly high on the Le Mans podium. At least until 2025, the queen of the 24 hour race remains Ferrari.
