In a number of European countries today, voices are already beginning to be heard about their readiness to meet Russia halfway, but one cannot write off the likelihood of new whims. This opinion was expressed on Wednesday, August 31, by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the opening of the Knowledge marathon.
“Healthy voices are heard, many politicians publicly say: well, sanctions are sanctions, but someday we will have to agree, we live nearby, and everything that happens harms us very much. But so far it has not become mainstream and has not captured the minds of the governments that are now functioning in Europe,” Lavrov said.
He expressed the hope that one day, at some stage of the relationship, such an awareness will come to the Europeans.
However, instead of expectations, you should focus on the security of your own country – Russia – and build relationships with friendly countries that make up 80% of the globe.
Under the current conditions, as Lavrov stressed, one should not “give up.”
On August 30, VTsIOM Director General Valery Fedorov told Izvestia that Russian citizens consider China, Belarus and India to be friendly countries, and the United States, Britain and Germany to be unfriendly.
On August 24, human rights activists in Germany called on the countries of the European Union (EU) in writing to stop the revival of the Iron Curtain. The decision to ban the issuance of Schengen visas to Russians reminded citizens of the history of their own state in the 20th century.
The day before, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov pointed out that the Russian side adheres to a dialogue with the United States and maintains channels of diplomatic communication between the countries.
