Lapo in the dust: Italia Independent suspended from trading on the stock exchange
Trading in Italia Independent shares are suspended, as announced by Borsa Italiana in a statement. The shareholders' meeting decided to proceed with the dissolution and liquidation of the company, marking the definitive closure of Italia Independent. Founded by Lapo Elkann in January 2007, the company went through a disastrous financial phase in the following sixteen years, so much so that its continuation has become senseless.
The company meeting formalized the decision to put an end to the activity of the company specialized in the production of glasses. This also marks the conclusion of Lapo Elkann's entrepreneurial adventure. Between relaunches and capital increases, Elkann saw around 40 million euros dissolve in Italia Independent. The last capital increase dates back to a year ago, when Elkann satisfied the requests of the creditor financial institutions – Unicredit, Intesa, Bnl, Ifis, Banco Bpm – who have accepted reimbursement quotas in the order of 10% to 20%.
The company has not recorded a positive balance sheet since 2016, accumulating a total loss of 86 million euros. Revenues have drastically decreased, going from 17 million in 2017 to 2 million in 2022. Likewise, the value of the shares dropped from 23 euros in 2013 until they were excluded from listing on the stock exchange this year. morning.
