Until now she was “designated” – now the new leadership of the Greens is also officially in office. In a postal vote after the online party conference, the delegates confirmed their decision.

Berlin – Ricarda Lang and Omid Nouripour are now officially the new Greens chairmen. The election of both at the online party congress at the end of January was subsequently confirmed by the delegates in a postal vote, as the Greens in Berlin announced.

Both Lang and Nouripour improved in postal voting compared to voting at the digital party congress. Lang received 78.73 percent of the votes (after 75.93 percent at the party congress), Nouripour came to 91.65 percent (after 82.58 percent). The political federal director Emily Büning also increased: She came to 91.44 percent (after 88.35 percent). According to the party, 68.33 percent of the 821 delegates took part in the postal vote.

However, the online election at the party congress and the subsequent postal vote are only partially comparable. Because unlike at the party congress, only those candidates who had already been elected at the party congress were on the ballot afterwards. Unsuccessful competitors could no longer attract votes.

The new party leader Lang had started as an applicant for the women’s place in the dual leadership without any competitors, while co-party leader Nouripour prevailed against two clearly defeated competitors. Büning, in turn, was also the only candidate for the post of political director, which is similar to that of general secretary in other parties.

Federal Treasurer Marc Urbatsch was also confirmed in office. Pegah Edalatian from North Rhine-Westphalia and Heiko Knopf from Thuringia are now official deputy party leaders. “We are very happy about the trust and looking forward to leading the party together into a new era!” wrote the political director Büning on Twitter.

In the postal vote, a whole range of personnel decisions had to be confirmed. In addition to the six-member new party executive, the party council was also newly elected at the party congress. The body advises the federal executive committee and coordinates the work between the bodies of the federal party, the parliamentary groups and the state associations. Of the 16 members, 13 were elected, the two federal chairmen and the political federal manager are there because of their office.

Among others, the two former leaders of the Greens, Annalena Baerbock and Robert Habeck, were elected to the party council.

According to the information, the elections to the federal arbitration court, which regulates internal party conflicts, were also confirmed, as were a number of changes to the statutes adopted at the party congress. dpa
