Laboratories in Germany reached their limits in January and February. In the meantime, according to the association, the situation has relaxed again.
According to the association, fewer and fewer PCR tests for the corona virus in Germany are leading to a more relaxed situation in many laboratories. Last week, the nationwide average was 67 percent – “a significant reduction”, said the Association of Accredited Laboratories in Medicine (ALM) on Tuesday.
The information comes from around 180 laboratories and, according to their own statements, represents the majority of the current corona testing in Germany. In January and early February, capacities were almost fully utilized with values of more than 90 percent.
According to the ALM, a total of around 1.8 million PCR tests were carried out last week – by far the lowest value in weeks. However, the laboratories do not consider the falling number of tests to be a reliable indication that the infection process is declining. The rate of positive tests is still high at around 45 percent, it said. This indicates a high number of undetected cases, which are therefore not included in the statistics of the Robert Koch Institute. dpa
