The Ministry of Labor and Social Economy has suspended the meeting that was scheduled for this Monday with social agents to discuss the reduction of working hours, in order to focus attention and work on aid to Valencia.
“We have decided to suspend that meeting because now all our efforts, those of the Government, those of the ministry, but also those of the social partners are focused on save the situation that has occurred in Valencia”indicated this past Sunday the Secretary of State for Employment, Joaquín Pérez Rey, in an interview on RNE.
The appointment was planned to meet the deadline given to CCOO, UGT, CEOE and Cepyme of obtain this November 11 “a definitive yes or no” to his latest proposal to bring, by law, the weekly working day from the current 40 hours to 37.5 hours.
Before the appointment was postponed, Labor already had on the table the refusal of CEOE and Cepyme, which this week advanced their rejection of a measure that, in their words, represents a “interference in the autonomy of collective bargaining, enshrined in article 37.1 of the Constitution”.
Regarding this, Pérez Rey pointed out that the CEOE “is not adequately representing the interests of companies of this country but is playing politics and this veto is more ideological than real.
The Secretary of State regretted that the employers’ associations are not there and has invited them to reconsider their refusal and to participate in closing an agreement that, as he indicated, is “a decisive agreement to gain well-being in the labor market.”
“If they do not want to be left out of what is going to be one of the most important labor reforms in our history, I think they should really defend the interests of companies and stop ideological and political positions,” concluded Pérez Rey.
