Labor struggles | The industrial union's ban on overtime began in several contract sectors

The vice president of the union put the responsibility for solving the situation on the government.

Industrial union announced by the overtime ban has started at midnight in several contract areas of the union. The overtime ban is part of the union's industrial action to oppose the labor market tightening planned by the government.

The overtime ban ends at midnight on Sunday, February 4. Among the activities, the technology industry, the mechanical forest industry, the basic chemical industry, and trade and workshop operations in the automotive industry are among others.

The vice president of the union Turja Lehtonen put the responsibility for solving the situation on the government and said that the Confederation of Industry cannot accept dictation, weakening and cuts aimed at employees.

“Only the government can solve the labor market crisis, which it has caused by its own actions. Hopefully the year 2024 will bring the government the kind of wisdom it didn't have in 2023. Unilateral weakening of working life is not part of the Nordic model,” Lehtonen said in the press release.

Teollisuusliitto announced industrial action before the turn of the year concerning the industrial areas of Kilpilahti and Kokkola. The two-day political strikes will begin on February 1. They mean, among other things, the demolition of Neste's oil refinery.
