Nurses cannot now move from one task or workplace to another, so patients may have to be transferred between units and even hospitals.
Nursing organizations Tehy and Super’s new industrial action may cause Tampere University Hospital Tays to cancel patient examinations and procedures even on a very short schedule. In case of cancellation, additional information will be given for the new time.
“So far, there have been no cancellations, but in some situations it can happen now. Primarily, it concerns non-urgent examinations and procedures”, says the HR director of the Pirkanmaa hospital district Raija Ruoranen.
According to Ruoranen, the aim is to avoid canceling procedures for which the patient has had to prepare, for example by not eating or drinking.
Nursing organizations decided on new industrial action measures on Wednesday. As of Thursday, a ban on temporary transfer applies to members of Tehy and Super who work in the municipal sector. During the ban, nurses do not move from their own job or place of work to another job or place of work, which affects the adequacy of the nurses.
“There is still no idea how widely this will affect. In terms of the operation of an individual unit, it can be momentarily very harmful. Patients have to be transferred more sensitively between units and even hospitals.”
in the Tays about 750 internal substitutes also work. Banning their activities has no effect.
“Internal substitutes have work areas where they work normally. It will continue as normal.”
According to Ruoranen, the number of sick leave has increased recently, so there is a constant need for substitutes.
“One thing that has a clear impact is the guidelines for respiratory symptoms. There are now plenty of respiratory tract infections on the go. The clear instruction is that you should not come to work when you are sick and that the personnel must still take the corona test.”
