In a long collective bargaining dispute, there are few chips for building an agreement, says the national conciliator.
Nursing organizations knocked out a draft of a new patient safety law on Sunday before the parties returned to the Boulevard to continue the long-term mediation of the nursing sector.
Tehy and Super call the draft unnecessary and prepared according to the instructions of the employer.
According to the organizations, an independent court can already prohibit or suspend a strike if it threatens the lives and health of citizens.
“The bill seriously infringes on the basic rights of nurses and treats the female-dominated sector in labor disputes in a completely different way than male-dominated sectors,” the nurses’ organizations said in their press release.
Social and health Ministry heard from nurses and employers about the new patient safety law on Sunday. The bill is not ready, so it has not been made public.
The ministry said at the beginning of September that it was preparing a bill to protect the lives of patients. The preparation is based on the strike intentions announced by Tehy and Super, for example in intensive care units in several cities.
The first of the strikes announced by the nurses’ organizations is starting on Friday in Hämeenlinna. The next intensive care unit strikes are coming at the end of the month in Turku and Oulu. In each of the three locations, preparations are made for the closing of the intensive care units in the event of strikes.

The negotiation manager of KT, which represents the employer side Henrika Nybondas-Kangas considers the law to be necessary in the fall industrial action situations. According to him, based on the announcements of nursing associations, the lives and health of patients are in danger.
“Nobody is taking away the right to strike. It’s about the minimum resource to secure operations,” says Nybondas-Kangas.
Helsingin sanomat newspaper and Evening News reported on the content of the show based on their own information over the weekend. According to HS’s information, the unions should be obliged to ensure the provision of sufficient labor during labor disputes. According to the newspapers, at their most severe, regional administrative agencies (avi) could order individual nurses to work during industrial action under the threat of a fine.
Minister of Family and Basic Services Aki Lindén (sd) said on Sunday in the early afternoon that there are some open questions in the bill. He can’t estimate when exactly the show would be finished.
“There is no spirit that does not give a law. That’s what this is about”, as they say.
Hearing after, the labor market partners headed to the national conciliator’s office on Helsingin Boulevard. Times are also reserved for mediation on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
“We have the first industrial action on the horizon, and we’re looking at what can be done through mediation before that,” the national conciliator Anu Sajavaara told STT before the start of Sunday’s mediation.
The mediator told about the beginning of the week on Twitter, that there had been some convergence. He now specifies that the parties are “still quite far apart”.
Nurses in the public sector have been without a collective agreement since March. Sajavaara started in his position in August. He characterizes that he immediately got into real action.
“This is from the more difficult end. Here, there are quite a few chips on the table with which to build an agreement,” Sajavaara describes the situation in the nursing industry.
