Laajasalo | The Helsinki Sports Club is the target of violent vandalism – the police are investigating

Laajasalo Palloseura’s kiosk caught fire early Sunday morning. The police are investigating the case.

Helsinki native The Laajasalo Palloseura experienced a miserable blow the night before Sunday, when the kiosk located on the club’s field in the Laajasalo sports park burned to the ground.

The same kiosk has been the target of vandalism throughout the summer.

“Windows have been broken from it regularly, several times. Filing a criminal report is already routine. Would last night’s incident have been the fourth incident this summer,” says the club’s executive director Juha Tikander.

According to Tikander, the kiosk has always been destroyed again after it has been repaired from the previous vandalism. Nothing has ever been stolen from the building, only vandalized.

“We had now installed a camera nearby, but its power cord had first been torn from the wall and only then had it attacked the kiosk,” says Tikander.

“It went to a pretty sad end,” says Juha Tikander of the burnt kiosk.

Kiosk had time to be in the Fairly Better Saari arena since last spring. The financial damages of the fire were not extensive, because the Laajasalo Palloseura got its kiosk at a bargain price with the help of relations.

“This is not the kind of blow that cannot be recovered from. Annoying, frustrating and disappointing, of course,” laments Executive Director Tikander.

However, the emotional value of the building was great. The club has nearly a thousand licensed players, and the kiosk played a significant role in tournaments and other events.

“With the help of the kiosk, for example, serving food was made easier. Sometimes it also functioned as a competition office. The club community has been proud when it has been nice-looking and practical.”

According to Tikander, the club is already planning to buy a new kiosk.

“I don’t feel like giving up in the face of such vandalism. Do whatever you want, but the fight will always be new!”

The police are investigating the case as an act of vandalism.

The vandalism of Laajasalo was the first to report MTV.

Correction 8.9. 16:38: Corrected Tikander’s title to executive director.
