This Tuesday, the ‘la Caixa’ Foundation delivered grants for biomedical research to a total of 29 projects selected within the framework of the call. CaixaResearch of Health Research 2024, a call for which it has allocated a budget of 25.7 million euros (each project receives between 500,000 and one million euros).
Among the selected projects, which can be carried out in research centers, hospitals and universities in Spain and Portugal, we come across new strategies to deal with the bacteria that causes tuberculosiscombat heart disease or better understand liver disease associated with obesity.
There are also those seeking to develop a synthetic retina to recover vision in cases of blindness due to retinitis pigmentosa; understand how the parasite that causes sleeping sickness invade tissues; generate human organs in host animals from stem cells; or develop a replica of the ecosystem of a colon tumor on a chip to study the effectiveness of immunotherapies.
This year, the 29 selected projects are led by scientists from 11 Spanish and six Portuguese centers. The consortium projects have the collaboration of research groups from Netherlands, Germany, Singapore, Italy, Israel and Australia.
