The Kyrgyz village of Pasky-Aryk in the Batken region was subjected to mortar fire from the Tajik military. This was announced on Saturday, September 17, by the border service of Kyrgyzstan.
“By violating the previously reached agreements, starting from 08:50 (05:50 Moscow time – Ed.) Until 08:55, the Tajik side fired mortars at the settlement of Pasky-Aryk in the Batken region,” the report says.
Information about the dead, injured and destruction in the village was not received.
Meanwhile, as of 08:00 (05:00 Moscow time) on Saturday, the situation on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan was characterized as gradually normalizing. The Kyrgyz border service noted that the night passes without incident.
The day before, on September 16, the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan reported 24 dead as a result of clashes on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border. At the same time, the number of injured residents during the armed clash on the border with Tajikistan increased to 87 people.
At the same time, it was reported in Tajikistan that four Tajik citizens were killed during the shelling of an ambulance by the Kyrgyz military in Isfara.
Earlier on Friday, information appeared that more than 18 thousand citizens of Kyrgyzstan were evacuated from the conflict zone with Tajikistan on the border of the two countries.
The situation on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan escalated on the night of September 16. Armed clashes broke out along the entire perimeter of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border. Later, Bishkek and Dushanbe agreed on a ceasefire from 7:00 Moscow time. Despite this, the parties reported continued shelling.
The border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan periodically becomes a zone of conflict between local residents and border guards of the two countries. The reason for this is the areas where it is impossible to determine how the border between states runs.
