The Government plans for the worst case a temporary relocation to the suburbs where basic services are available
The rain of Russian missiles against kyiv continues, which in the last week left practically the entire capital in the dark; without water, gas or electricity. To avoid further damage in the course of the war, the Government prepares all possible scenarios, including evacuation. Although this would not be complete, but “partial”. It would be a “temporary relocation of certain groups of people to the suburbs, where basic services may be available,” says the mayor of kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, in an interview with the newspaper ‘RBK-Ukraine’.
With these words, the councilor does not intend to scare the population, but rather “prepare it for each scenario. We must not rule out the worst case scenario », he affirms emphatically. The authorities want citizens “ready” in different situations, since, “according to the military, the enemy plans to continue carrying out insidious attacks on the country’s infrastructure to intimidate Ukrainians with darkness and cold,” explains Klitschko.
For this reason, the Government has appealed to the residents of the capital to collect water and food that can be prepared or consumed without electricity, warm clothes and charged power banks. «And in the case of a bad scenario, it would be good if everyone could go to their house in the outskirts, where there is water and a stove, or go to their friends’ houses. But we do everything possible so that the worst case scenario does not happen, “says the mayor of kyiv, who adds that” 20% of the country is still occupied and the Russians are not going to leave, but I really hope and we are doing everything everything possible so that we celebrate the New Year in a peaceful Ukraine free from the aggressor.”
500 generators
As the NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, denounced yesterday, Russia uses “winter as a weapon” attacking critical infrastructures and this week a sharp drop in temperatures is expected, which could reach up to twenty degrees below zero. That is why kyiv has opened 430 heating points, where residents can get necessary services such as heating, water, internet connection and other types of help. “And in case of an emergency, we will deploy a hundred more points,” says Klitschko, who estimates the existing generators for the operation of these areas at 500. There are also twelve mobile modular boiler rooms.
Meanwhile, the shelling continues. Authorities today denounced Moscow airstrikes that hit the Mykolaiv water supply station in Kherson. The governor of the region already made an appeal over the weekend to its citizens to supply themselves with water in the face of the threat of new offensives, which have not ceased since February 24, when Russia invaded the neighboring country. Since then, the Kremlin has launched 16,000 airstrikes, of which at least 12,300 have targeted urban areas, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksei Reznikov denounced.
