The Public Prosecution said in a tweet on Twitter that this step was taken in implementation of the ruling issued against the convicts, Fahd Mazyad Al-Rajaan, former director of the Public Institution for Social Insurance and one of the most prominent suspects in corruption cases in Kuwait, and his wife, Mona Muhammad Al-Wazzan.
Fahd Al-Rajaan died in September at the age of 73 in London, where he had been residing for years.
Al-Rajaan was accused of many cases dating back to his tenure at the leadership of the Public Institution for Social Insurance, which invests the funds of pensioners in Kuwait and abroad, and among these charges is the suspicion of committing crimes of embezzlement, breach of trust, mismanagement and money laundering.
In 2016, the Kuwaiti Criminal Court issued a 10-year prison sentence for Al-Rajaan in absentia because he was outside Kuwait, where the ruling was circulated to the International Police (Interpol).
In 2017, the London police arrested him at the request of a Kuwaiti, but his extradition to Kuwait did not take place.
In 2019, Kuwait announced that the Supreme Court in London issued a ruling imposing a seizure of $847 million on Al-Rajaan’s assets and obliging him to disclose all his assets around the world.
The Kuwaiti Public Prosecution statement indicated that the money was recovered “within the framework of judicial cooperation between the Public Prosecution and its counterpart in the sisterly Kingdom of Bahrain,” extending its thanks to the Bahraini Public Prosecution.
