Country music legend Kris Kristofferson has died
Singer-songwriter and actor Kris Kristofferson has died at the age of 88. The news of the death, which occurred in the man’s home in Maui, Hawaii, was confirmed to Variety from the family: “It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that our husband/father/grandfather, Kris Kristofferson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28th at home. We are all so lucky for the time we spent with him. Thank you for loving him all these years and when you see a rainbow, know that he is smiling down on us.”
Born in Brownsville on June 22, 1936, Kris Kristofferson was a true country music legend. Winner of four Grammy Awards, Kristofferson has also been inducted into the prestigious Country Music Hall of Fame.
During his career he collaborated with artists of the caliber of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings, with whom he founded The Highwaymen.
Parallel to his career as a singer-songwriter he also undertook that of an actor, acting in films such as Escape from Hollywood, Alice doesn’t live here anymore And I want Garcia’s head.
The most iconic role, however, remains that of John Norman Howard, played alongside Barbra Streisand in the third version of A star is born and thanks to which he won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy Film.
Engaged to Janis Joplin, Kris Kristofferson married three times and had 8 children. In 1961 he married Frances “Fran” Mavia Beer, from whom he later divorced. Two children were born from the marriage. In 1973 the artist married Rita Coolidge and the two remained together until their divorce, which was made official in 1980. The couple had a son. In his third marriage Kristofferson married Lisa Meyers in 1983; the two had five children.
