Cheers to the King, applause and flags of Spain. This is how it was received this Monday Philip VI in Vizcaya by a group of people gathered at the entrance of the Bilbao Society. Moncarca has come to the Basque city to celebrate the 185th anniversary of this cultural and recreational association.
Upon arrival, the Head of State was received at the entrance of the building by the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska; the mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto, and the first vice-lendakari and Minister of Culture and Linguistic Policy, Ibone Bengoetxea, among other personalities.
During his speech, the Monarch wished members and friends of the Bilbao Society to stay the course, always attentive to the feeling of each momentboth in the closest and in the broader evolution of the world,” according to the Europa Press agency.
Likewise, he has expressed confidence that this association will continue to host meetings, conversations and exchanges of ideas, which are «the foundation of a dynamic, participatory and open society to tomorrow.”
In the toast offered before lunch, Felipe VI pronounced some first words in Basque to welcome attendees and thank the Bilbao Society for the invitation on its 185th anniversary.
Also participating in the event were the president of the Basque Parliament, Bakartxo Tejería; the president of the General Meetings of Bizkaia, Ana Otadui; the provincial deputy for Economic Promotion of Bizkaia, Ainara Basurko; the Government delegate in Euskadi, Marisol Garmendia, and the president of the Bilbao societyIgnacio Goiria Ormazabal.
