Buckingham Palace reported this Monday that King Charles III was diagnosed with cancer and will have to suspend his public duties to receive treatment.
According to information from the Palace, The king was diagnosed with the disease when he went to the hospital a few days ago for treatment due to a “benign enlargement of the prostate.”
“Doctors noted a separate problem. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,” the statement reads.
Nevertheless, The Palace did not offer details about the type of cancer that the British monarch was diagnosed with. and he limited himself to explaining that he will receive the relevant treatment in a London hospital.
“His Majesty has begun today (Monday, February 5) a program of regular treatments, during which time doctors have advised him to postpone his public duties,” the monarchy said.
The British channel BBC, for its part, stated that It is not prostate cancer.
“The King thanks his medical team for the prompt intervention, which was made possible by his recent hospital procedure. He remains entirely positive about the treatment received and looks forward to returning to full public duties as soon as possible,” the Palace said.

According to the statement, although the monarch will suspend his public activities, will continue to carry out his state duties, such as hearings with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, or the meetings of the Privy Council. It is expected that at other events he will be replaced by other members of the royal family.
The Palace also stated that the king chose to make his diagnosis public to avoid speculation. and with the aim of raising awareness in the world about people affected by cancer.

The news was communicated to the press after having informed the prime minister. It is also known that The king has already personally informed his sons, Princes William and Harry, and his brothers, Princes Anne, Andrew and Edward, of the illness.
According to the BBC, Prince Harry, who resides in California (United States) after resigning from participating in royal activities, He will travel to the United Kingdom in the coming days to visit his father after being diagnosed with cancer.
King Charles III was last seen in public this Sunday with his wife, Camilla, when he attended a religious service in the church of Saint Mary Magdalene in Sandringham (eastern England).
The 75-year-old monarch left The London Clinic hospital in London last Monday. in which he underwent surgery for a benign enlarged prostate.

Her daughter-in-law Kate, Princess of Wales, also left the hospital last week after being subjected to more than two weeks ago to “abdominal surgery” of which hardly any details have been given.
After learning of the illness of King Charles III, several politicians from the United Kingdom expressed their messages to the monarch. One of them was Prime Minister Sunak, who wrote on his X account (formerly Twitter) that he hopes for the king's speedy and complete recovery.

The Prime Ministers of Wales and Ireland also spoke. Michelle O'Neill, Prime Minister of Ireland, sent the king her wishes for a speedy recovery. Mark Drakeford, First Minister of Wales, regretted the news and sent his regards to the king and his family.
